How to Catch Waves
There is many ways of learning to catch waves and many surfers who teach beginners is lying on your board on the sand practicing the technique called ‘Pop-up’. When we say pop up, it is when the surfer is paddling and when he has caught the wave, he goes from the paddling position to standing on the board.
Since you are only beginning surfing you should be catching white water and by this we mean the wave that has already broke. Its safer and a lot more funner catching these waves rather than trying to paddle for waves out back. The first days of surfing you should be only surfing small waves that you can easily walk up to without getting scared and you can comfortably stand.
Whenever you are walking out please make sure you are holding the board by the rails so you can jump over white water without bashing your head off the board. Look around you incase there is someone behind you or someone in front of you who is currently surfing in the white water. Always be careful whenever out in the water, because you never know what could happen.
