You just got your surfboard now what you need to do is wax her up with some fresh wax. Now every wax out there is made for certain waters, for example there is warm and cold water wax. Its not wise using warm water wax when in cold waters because your either going to damage the board and at the same time when surfing you wont get the full grip that you may need.

Now that you got the correct wax hopefully, you can start to apply it to the deck of your surfboard. Start off with a light layer of wax, rub around the tail until you get to 3/4 up the board. Personally I wax the sides of my rails because it gives me some grip whenever I duck dive, comes in use sometimes. Now go over it harder for the second layer. If you have done it right you should see the wax form into circles.

Taking Wax Off
There is two easy ways to take wax off without completely trashing your surfboard. These two ways are the hair dryer way or the white spirits. Basically the hair dryer you plug into the wall and dry the surface of your board until it slightly melts then you want to wipe the wax off until there is none left. In my opinion the white spirits way is easier, grab an old cloth and pour some of the liquid in the cloth and scrub at the surface of the board gently, it should all just vanish after a few scrubs!
